There are laws that protect students with disabilities. Take a look at two resources available.

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that ensures students with disabilities receive free and appropriate public education (FAPE) AND these students receive special education services and resources. Their website contains great resources and information regarding children with disabilities. 

North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Exceptional Children's Division "is to assure that students with disabilities and those who are academically or intellectually gifted develop mentally, physically, emotionally, and vocationally through the provision of an appropriate individualized education in the least restrictive environment."
